Voiceless considers ‘factory farming’ to be the cruellest of all industries that use animals.

Why?

Many animals no longer spend their days scratching in the dirt, chewing grass and rolling in mud on friendly farms like those we see in storybooks, movies and cartoons. Their homes are more like prison cells of concrete and steel bars, except, unlike prisoners, these unlucky animals are not even allowed to go outdoors for exercise. Oh, and the biggest difference – the animals are innocent!

Factory farming arguably causes the most suffering to the largest number of animals. 'Factory' animals in Australia and around the world are denied nearly every basic need.

• Most of them never see the light of day, feel the earth beneath their feet, walk freely, stretch their wings or limbs, exercise, forage for food or socialise in a natural way.
  
• Many suffer from horrible physical mutilations such as having their beaks, tails and teeth cut without pain relief.

What can we do?

Young people can set a positive example for others to reduce the amount of meat they eat, choose free-range meat at the supermarket or, of course, become vegetarian or vegan.
