Emanuel School – 8th August 2007 |
|
|
|
On Wednesday 8th August, Emanuel School Animal Club had a visit from Dr Rosenwax, a vet specialising in birds and exotic animals. Dr Rosenwax spoke to the children about birds and reptiles in general; their physiology, environment and general behaviour. He also discussed the work wildlife volunteers do to look after the animals. Dr Rosenwax brought some ‘friends’ – a long-necked turtle and a pink galah, along with him for a ‘touch and talk’ demonstration. This was a very popular activity with the students!

On Monday 6th August Emanuel School Animal Club held a meeting to discuss reptiles, in preparation for an impending visit from a vet, Dr Rosenwax, who specialises in birds and reptiles. They talked about the basic physiology of snakes and what to do if you saw one in the wild and even practised first aid for a venomous bite with bandages! The children also made snake mobiles to present Dr Rosenwax when he arrives this Wednesday. |

Emanuel School Animal Club has been collecting donations from the staff and students at Emanuel School to buy polar fleece blankets for the homeless dogs at Monika’s Doggie Rescue. With the advent of winter at their new site at Ingleside, Monika’s Doggie Rescue desperately needed blankets that are warm, easy to launder and fast to dry so polar fleece is perfect!
Monika rang Emanuel School last week to advise that she had received the Animal Club’s delivery of 20 blankets. Monika will publish her thanks to the Club in their next magazine. |

The Animal Club at Clifton Hills Primary School has organised a whole school food and supply drive with items being collected to donate to the Darling Range Wildlife Shelter and the Animal Protection Society.
To inform the rest of the school about this task the Animal Club has held its own poster competition, with each Animal Club member making an information poster to display around the school.
We began making these posters at the end of Term 1 and have completed them at the beginning of Term 2.

As a part of this activity, we wrote to the City of Armadale Shire and asked them to donate a green wheelie bin to our Animal Club so that students, parents and families would have somewhere to place their donations.
We were very successful with this application and the City of Armadale not only kindly donated one large green wheelie bin, but they gave us two large green wheelie bins for our Animal Club.
Our posters are now proudly displayed in prominent positions around the school. At the beginning of each school morning one of the Animal Club Leaders places the bins out the front of a classroom for the donations to be made.
Then, just before school starts, another Animal Club Leader wheels the bins back inside. We have labelled one bin ‘Animal Protection Society’ and the other one ‘Darling Range Wildlife Shelter’.
This activity has been quite successful with many donations being made to help both shelters.
