Donvale Primary School - 15th February 2007 |
|
Last week our Animal Club "Heads
and Tails" was told a sad story of how Scud the farm dog was accidentally left
in a hot car and died. We are doing
posters on it to warn people that living things can die in hot cars.
Heads and Tails
have got a few new recruits to help save the donkeys.
Remember, Miss
Cartledge needs washing baskets for the Koalas hurt by the bushfires. So if you
have some, please donate them to Donvale Primary and we’ll give them to the
koalas as soon as possible. Thank you!

Emanuel School was honoured by a visit on Monday 5 February from Abbie Cornish, an Australian actress who is an Animal Club ambassador and has starred in various movies, including Somersault, Candy, A Good Year and The Golden Age. Ms Cornish addressed the Animal Club members at lunchtime and interacted with the students on various animal-related issues, including participating in a farm activity supplied by Voiceless. This memorable visit will be cherished by the students for quite some time! |

During February 2007, our Animal Club members created and illustrated posters with animal borders to advertise Animal Club and to share its purposes with the rest of the school. |

Animal Club volunteers at Monika's Doggie Rescue
On Sunday 18th December, Animal Club arranged a time for some volunteers to go to Monika's Doggie Rescue to provide some much-needed help. The regular volunteers and staff were getting ready for Christmas and needed a reprieve. Dogs of all shapes and sizes were walked, some twice! It was a hot day but a welcome breeze was blowing down by the bay and although all walkers were tired, both four-legged and two, it was a pleasant sort of exhaustion. The Club intends to visit again sometime in January to help Monika's cope with the flurry of post-Christmas abandoned animals. |

Two students in Year 3, on their own initiative, sought and collected
donations from the students in their year and donated the funds ($80)
to Emanuel's Animal Club for future activities. It's lovely to see
such young students organise an activity, on their own, with such
success. |
