Calendar Competition and Story Telling
During this week's meeting, we drew some animal pictures to be sent in to IFAW's (International Fund for Animal Welfare) design a calendar competition.
We also decided that as we were getting so many wonderful prizes from Voiceless that a fair way to share them around would be for one child each week to tell the group something they had done recently to help animals.
We've had lots of wonderful stories! One boy rescued a cockroach from the gas burner before mum and dad started cooking, and put him safely outside. We also had a wonderful story from one of the parents who was planning to take his sons out on a fishing trip until one of the boys brought home a door hanger they had made at Animal Club that said 'Fishing Hurts'. The father said that everytime he saw the door hanger it made him realise that fishing was cruel and was having second thoughts about ever taking his sons fishing.

Healthy Dogs, Healthy Kids Community Forum
The Animal Club project we're working on this term is called "Healthy Dogs, Healthy Kids" and as part of this project a Community Forum is scheduled for 14 October 2008. We also have a panel of experts, including members of the local council, a vet and a nurse who will be available to respond to any questions relating to health and dog issues with the Shire of Barkly.

Clifton Hills Primary School - 26th August 2008 |
|
Clifton Hills Primary School Animal Club members reviewed the chicken messages that we brainstormed two weeks ago.
We reviewed these because each member will be selecting their favourite message to go on a library bag that they will be making. The purpose of our library bags is to provide an avenue through which our club members can share their chicken messages with the other students in the school and the wider community.
Following the chicken message review, Mrs. Ritchie demonstrated how we were going to use the computer to create our library bag designs. After the demonstration we all got to use a computer and we began designing our library bag templates.
It was a lot of fun selecting our images and being creative. Many of our younger members needed some assistance so some of the animal club leaders had to help Mrs. Ritchie, Miss. Baile and Mrs. Stoakes to assist them, but, all in all we made some very pleasing progress today.
Each of our Animal Club members will be making two library bags, one for themselves, and one to go on the animal club stall to raise food and supplies for the Animal Protection Society.

They have now proudly displayed their efforts and acievements in the school offcie foyer to all to see! We will have more to add next week when 2 of our hard working students appear in the paper to seal heat bags that club members have made. The children have been very busy and have raised $500 for the Australian Koala Foundation already!

Ridge Street Kids Club - 25th August 2008 |
|
The children created their own television stations and came up with performances for the other children. One group created an animal rescue program where they rescued some kittens from a wall and a cow stuck in the mud.
We also decided to create out own Animal Club notice board (see picture) to show parents the things we have been doing and also so we can advertise upcoming animal friendly events.
