2007 Humane School Prize

Clifton Hills Primary School, WA  $5,000  Winner


Clifton Hills Primary School representatives accept their awards

This school’s activities included collecting supplies and funds for various animal protection organisations and a number of significant activities bringing attention to focus on the factory farming of pigs.  Of particular note was an activity which saw each Animal Club member designing and making a piggy hat.  Each hat had a pro-pig slogan on it which the children came up with in a brainstorming session including: *Give the pigs freedom, *No pork on the fork *Knock down walls and stalls and *Even pigs need hugs.

Yuluma Primary School, WA $2,000
1st Runner up

This school’s activities included raising funds for an ‘Adopt a Bear’ program, letter writing to protest against the slaughter of seals in Canada, a picnic fundraiser and working on various projects involving Free Range Versus Intensive Pig Farming. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Donvale Primary School, VIC $1,000 2nd Runner Up (tied)

Wilbur Pig from Edgar's Mission visited Donvale Primary

Donvale Primary School’s activities included: collecting baskets and blankets for injured koalas, raising funds for a donkey shelter, and a wide range of pig related activities culminating in a visit from Pam Ahern and film star ‘Wilbur Pig’ from Edgar’s Mission.

 

 

 
 

Emanuel School, NSW $1,000 2nd Runner Up (tied)

The Emanuel School’s activities included: a practical illustration of the discomfort that battery cage hens experience followed by a visit to a free range chicken farm outside Sydney to be exposed to chickens being raised in a free-range environment.

Mount Lawley Primary School, WA $5,000 Winner

on Wake Up Perth TV

This school’s activities included creating “Share the world: everyone matters’ and “Noah’s arc” wall murals, visits from ferrets, kangaroos and a tawney mouth frog, raising funds for the RSPCA and the “Free the Bears Fund”, and being featured on Wake Up Perth “Wild Things” TV segment.

 

 

 

Emanuel School, NSW $2,500 Runner Up


Monikas Doggie Rescue benefitted from
the assistance of volunteer dog walkers
from the Emanuel School Animal Club
This school’s activities included raising funds, making blankets and volunteering at Monika's Doggie Rescue, participated in a Spotlight Prowl tour of Centennial Park, and successfully running a fund raising Open Day at Randwick Vet Hospital

 

 

 

 

 

Clifton Hills Primary School, WA $2,500 Runner Up

This school’s activities included learning about appropriate animal care during various visits from pet animals including 2 goats, 2 mice and a rescued dog,  a visit from a volunteer at the ‘Tiger Creek Wildlife Refuge” in the USA, and successful fund raising through ‘animal movie afternoons’ for the ‘Animal Protection Society.
